Regulation Expert Liv Jaeckel Appointed to HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management

Regulation Expert Liv Jaeckel Appointed to HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management As of now, Prof. Dr. Liv Jaeckel, 45, is a professor at HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management. The lawyer with a postdoctoral degree completes the Center for Health Care Management and Regulation and will provide new impetus for teaching in general as well as a specific focus on the Executive Education Program at the first business school established in Germany. The appointment of the Westphalia-born professor accompanies the strategic partnership between HHL and COGNOS AG announced last October.

HHL Dean Prof. Dr. Andreas Pinkwart says, “By appointing Prof. Jaeckel, we have reached yet another milestone of our innovate125 HHL Future Concept.” With the new Regulation Management focus HHL is dedicating itself to a field which will be growing dynamically over the next few years. According to Prof. Pinkwart, despite the increasing importance of regulation knowledge for business practice, this focal point has not yet developed very much at German universities, either in research or teaching. One reason for this is the fact that field of regulation management demands high levels of interplay between the various legal and economic sub-disciplines. “HHL does not limit its work to connecting legal and economic topics but also substantiates the basic questions using health care, another field undergoing dynamic changes, as an example,” explains HHL Dean Prof. Pinkwart. Prof. Dr. LivJaeckel will also examine regulation issues in the areas of pharmacology and medical engineering at the Center for Health Care Management and Regulation which is led by health care economist Prof. Dr. Dr. Wilfried von Eiff.

Prof. Dr. Jaeckel, born in Hamm-Heesen in 1969, studied law at the University of Münster (WWU) from 1988 to 1993. Jaeckel passed her first state law examination in 1993 and the second one in 1996. Her “summa cum laude” dissertation on the topic of “The Duty to Protect in German and European Law” received an award from the Dr. Feldbausch Foundation. In 2008, after a training period in the 5th Criminal Division of the German Federal Court of Justice in Berlin in 1996 and starting work on the Faculty of Law at the University of Leipzig, Prof. Dr. Jaeckel was awarded the venia legend in public law, European law and public international law following her postdoctoral thesis “The Law of Public Order and Security and the Risk Theory. Modern Technologies as a Reflection of Administrative Law”. Prof. Dr. Jaeckel has since worked as a professor ad interim at the law schools of TU Dresden and held teaching assignments at the law school of the University of Leipzig.
