Rising costs and measures to increase efficiency in the health care field as well as medical-technological progress represent growing challenges for managers of hospitals and health care institutions. Doctors and health care executives must be able to better understand the ever changing dramatic business relationships and apply new leadership concepts and innovative management tools.
As one of the leading German hotbeds for entrepreneurs, HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management picks up on this topic within the framework of its part-time MBA program with the new Hospital Management and Health Services focus. Thus, it interlinks its General Management approach directed towards sustainable leadership in a unique manner with new concepts and methods for effective, responsible and innovative management of health care institutions. The program is centered on hospitals, rehabilitation clinics, nursing facilities and their supply networks. The participants expand their leadership and management skills through interactive learning based on actual cases and develop innovative, solution-based plans and techniques using best-practice examples from Germany and abroad in order to apply these skills in their own organizations. In addition to the latest management and leadership skills, the program teaches innovative methods with particular relevance to the best possible solution of management tasks in hospitals and other health care institutions.
The classes of the Hospital Management and Health Services focus include Process Management & Medical Controlling, Innovation Management and Communication as well as Human Resource Management. The content of the General Management classes of the part-time MBA cover topics such as Strategy, Finance and Leadership.
The target group for the latest program offered at the first business school established in Germany is doctors, hospital, rehabilitation clinic and nursing facility executives as well as managers from the medical industry and associations.
The part-time MBA program with the Hospital Management and Health Services focus, which is conducted with the Universitätsklinikum Leipzig as the practice partner, is taught by internationally-renowned HHL professors as well as experienced expert professors and specialists from the fields of hospital management and health economics under the leadership of renowned medical economist Prof. Dr. Dr. Wilfried von Eiff.
Prof. von Eiff has been building the Center for Health Care Management and Regulation at HHL since November 2013; he has been presiding the Institute for Hospital Management at the University of Münster since 1994. He was a member of the board of Universitätsklinik Gießen and held various executive positions in the automotive industry.
The structure of the 24-month practice-related on-the-job training is a combination of 3 block weeks and 16 intensive course weekends taught in Leipzig and Cologne. During an international seminar week in Phoenix, AZ, USA, the participants will gain extensive insight in the management of American best-in-class hospitals.
Prof. von Eiff says, “Against the background of a chronically underfunded health care system, the participants of the new part-time MBA program with the focus on Hospital Management and Health Services benefit from innovative and solution-based management concepts, which we will discuss during case studies and on site at the respective institutions. The goal should be to achieve more quality and efficiency with costs remaining stable or maybe even decreasing in order to continue to care for patients and their relatives on a high level in the future while avoiding rationing.”
The tuition fee for the part-time MBA program with a focus on Hospital Management and Health Services amounts to EUR 31,000. For the program starting in June 2014, the university is offering a reduced rate of EUR 25,000. Applications are now being accepted.
